Cory Anderson

Setting the Mood: Why atmosphere is important in every genre and every scene.

Readers want conflict, action, characters that struggle and a plot that thickens... but ignoring your setting and atmosphere is like watching a play on an empty stage. This session will discuss not just the importance of setting and mood, but how to evoke it quickly and efficiently - without bogging down the story.

Cory was born in Idaho and grew up an outdoor girl in the wild Middle Rockies, where her father - a Forest Service ranger - encouraged her to explore the woods and find “what beauty there is” in the world. She now lives in the Wasatch Mountains, where she spends countless hours writing, sometimes in the woods with just a pencil and paper. Cory is represented by Lindsay Auld at Writers House, and her debut YA thriller What Beauty There Is is set for publication in 2020 by Macmillan Publishers.
